UC/Miami

Read the Cincinnati Enquirer story this morning regarding US Bank cancelling this game. My take is this series won't last past next season and it won't happen next year unless Charlie Coles tells the Miami AD to go ahead and schedule it. What kills me most of all is that US Bank is holding out hope of lining up another game featuring UC. What makes the management down there think that game will draw any better? Mick is quoted that with a 'tough' 18 league games the 'Cats can only schedule little sisters of the poor which wouldn't entice me to go to US Bank. I completely understand not doing home and homes with MAC schools but this is a little different. This is a 'rivalry' that local fans should have interest in. I think this is another by product of UC having a couple down seasons. Cincinnati fans in general are very 'fair weather' to say the least.

How is it you managed to turn this into an opportunity to bash UC fans? What about the Miami fans? Millet hall isn't exactly packed for games either. It's ok though I EXPECT this kind of trash talk from you.Nevermind the fact that UC's arena seats almost twice as many people as Cintas. That little tidbit doesn't fit into your UC fans blast.

Touchy aren't we? Where is the trash talk though? If I was trash talking I would talk about how Bowling Green scared Mick out of playing any more MAC games period which is probably closer to the truth than you would admit. 13,176 is the seating capacity of 5/3 Arena and Cintas holds 10,250 so I am not sure about your math but I do know where you went to high school. And since I am starting it off now how come our arena was twice as full for games last year as your 'palace' over in Clifton? The gist of my post was to show two things: 1) US Bank management is poor. Again if Miami/UC is not drawing what will for them outside of a Big East game there? 2.) The fans who enjoy natural geographical rivalries are getting stiffed again. Miami fans are apathetic in general. To be clear if X has a couple down seasons I think we would be hit by the same 'fair weather' bug as is afflicting UC now. But Yancy is going to change all that I believe. (Insert sarcasm here)

I'll concede on the bad math I was under the impression Cintas held about 8,000. It looks much smaller than the Shoe from your seat. As far as attendance last season I would hope your boys could draw a crowd with the team they had on the floor. UC on the other hand is in the middle of rebuilding and cant expect a full house when they lose two gimmes in the I hope now defunct Peggy Cronin classic. I know your going to think this is BS but I also think that times are hard and while UC's fan base is mostly blue collar X's are mostly white collar. Thats not a knock it just is what it is.

Again overall Cincinnati (the city) fans are fair weather. People who post on X fan boards are now calling for us to only do 'buy' games with Miami now that UC is apparently headed that way with them. To me that is sad. I also think we should be playing Wright State every year also. But since we have two buy games with Ohio and Toledo next year coming to the 'Tas they feel we should treat Miami the same and I completely disagree. To me (and you can take this anyway you want) Mick is trying to 'big time' MU. I will use the quote from the story 'OSU doesn't go to Oxford' from his mouth as my proof. In a sense he is attempting to put his program on the same level as the Buckeyes which just rings hollow right about now. Not saying they won't get there (and they did play the Buckeyes in two national championship games in the mid 60's) but come on Mick. The hardest part of all this is that it isn't like Miami is even beating UC in these games.

One last thing: Do not try and paint X season ticket holders as 'white collar' and UC's as 'blue collar'. I think the ratio of both season ticket bases on that level is pretty close. Ms. Zimpher ailenated most of the season ticket base with her treatment of Bob. UC season tickets are in the same price range as X so let's not try and paint us as the rich spoiled kids and UC fans as the back bone of the city. Engineers and Pharmacists (UC specialities) make a whole crap ton of money too.
